Self-Portraits — the Hansson Family Portrait Collection
Stockholms Auktionsverk has been given the honour of presenting and selling the Hansson Family’s unique collection of self-portraits.
For more than three decades, the Hansson family of art dealers has organised over 200 exhibitions of Swedish art from the late 19th century to the present day. In addition, the family has loaned a large number of works to museum exhibitions throughout the country. In parallel, they have built up a significant private art collection, marked by deep expertise, curiosity and a personal collector’s eye.
For just over ten years the family has been engaged in a museum project focused on provincial Swedish landscape painting. As a natural consequence of this work, they have gradually chosen to divest other parts of their own collection.
The first auction of works from the Hansson Family’s collection was held at Stockholms Auktionsverk in the autumn of 2015 and became a benchmark in the field. The auction comprised over 300 works and attracted representatives from some ten Swedish and international museums. Among the foremost buyers was Nationalmuseum, which acquired several significant works.
