White Glove Success for Kirsti Paakkanen’s Wardrobe – Three Times the Estimate
The success was undeniable when the online auction The Kirsti Paakkanen Collection I concluded at Stockholms Auktionsverk in Helsinki over the weekend. Extensive media attention and intense international bidding resulted in a “white glove” sale, with a final price three times the starting estimate.
This auction is the first of three this spring featuring clothing, bags, and shoes from the private wardrobe of Kirsti Paakkanen – the iconic Finnish entrepreneur who saved Marimekko and transformed the brand into an international design icon. The outcome demonstrates that her uncompromising sense of quality and design continues to captivate audiences well beyond Finland’s borders.
Over half a million unique visitors have followed the exhibition online in recent weeks, and media coverage has been extensive – a clear testament to the collection’s cultural significance and quality.
Bids came primarily from Finland, Sweden, the United Kingdom, and Estonia, with particular interest in Dior items designed by John Galliano. A limited-edition 2007 “Pearly Queen” bag sold for just over 14,000 EUR, while a Dior necklace reached 9,000 EUR. A black evening gown by Galliano from Spring 2001 sold for nearly 8,400 EUR.
Kirsti Paakkanen Collection II & III
This auction was the first of three, with the doors reopening in March for the second installment, full of iconic garments and accessories from Paakkanen’s private wardrobe.
