Mentzer was involved in the production of a number of Swedish atlases in the second half of the 19th century. In 1856 he published his famous historic atlas of Sweden and a few years later in 1860 he published a world atlas in folio, with several editions to be printed. He also joined forces with C. F. Wiberg to publish a historical world atlas in folio for the schools, also printed in several editions.
