Oblong folio (525x680 mm). Coloured lithograph double page title leaf, 36 coloured lithograph double page plates of which 2 tinted (all, all plates bound together, 1 with repaired tear to margin, partly spotted, title partly spotted). Lacking 1 double page title leaf and 3 leaves of text.
Contemporary red half calf, partly rubbed and worn, spine in compartments, gilt edges.
First printed in Rome 1826-29. Part I consists of 19 plates and part II 18 plates, here bound together. Lacking 1 double page coloured title leaf to vol. II and 3 leaves of text.
Illustrated with large engravings that show scenes from the descent of Odysseus into Hades and the sacking of Troy.
Franz Riepenhausen (1786-1831) and his brother Johannes (1788-1860) were German painters and engravers who worked in Rome.
